Steeped in one of Japan's most famous folktales, Urashima-Kannon Temple enshrines a centuries-old statue of the Goddess of Mercy allegedly brought back from the undersea Dragon Palace by the legendary fisherman Urashima Taro. Though its original 9th-century home burned down in 1868, the miraculous icon survived and now rests within Keiun-ji Temple flanked by figures of Taro and the Dragon Princess. A visit here offers a rare and enchanting glimpse into ancient maritime lore tucked right into an urban neighborhood.
