Tucked behind an unassuming wooden door along a quiet shopping street, Ganki Inari is one of the few surviving remnants of Yokohama's early international port era. Originally established on the grounds of the opulent Ganki-rō brothel in 1859, the shrine was once where courtesans prayed to the Inari fox deity for protection and good fortune. Today, a short, narrow alley paved with pebbles leads visitors to a tiny, atmospheric sanctuary filled with miniature fox figurines and bright red lanterns. Lovingly maintained by local shopkeepers who hold an annual festival here each May, it offers an evocative step back into the city's hidden past.
