Standing at an impressive 186 meters, Kurobe Dam is a monumental feat of mid-century engineering nestled amidst rugged mountain peaks. Completed in 1963 after seven years of arduous labor, the dam continues to generate hydropower while drawing travelers from around the world. Between late June and mid-October, visitors can witness a breathtaking spectacle as millions of gallons of misty water are discharged through its massive gates. Observation decks provide panoramic vistas across the gorge and the shimmering reservoir, making it an essential alpine stop.
