Tucked away in the stylish neighborhood of Minamiaoyama, this intimate memorial museum preserves the mid-century residence and atelier where modern art icon Taro Okamoto lived and worked until his death in 1996. Designed in collaboration with architect Junzo Sakakura, the distinctive convex building features his preserved paint-splattered workshop, evocative personal spaces, and rotating galleries of his surrealist creations. Outside, a verdant sculpture garden invites guests to wander among expressive bronze creatures and his iconic, face-adorned "chairs that refuse to be seated." It offers an inspiring, deeply personal encounter with the fiery imagination behind Japan's famous Tower of the Sun.
