Standing gracefully on a stone platform in Tsukuda Park, the Ishikawa Island Lighthouse is a reconstructed tribute to an 1866 beacon originally built by inmates of an Edo-era rehabilitation facility to guide local fishermen. Set against the backdrop of the Sumida River and surrounded by centuries-old tsukudani preserved-food shops, the striking black-and-white tower offers a picturesque glimpse into the neighborhood's past. Adding a delightfully quirky modern twist, the historic monument now doubles as a fully functioning public restroom.
