Hidden in plain sight amidst the luxury boutiques of Ginza, Hōdō Inari Shrine is a delightful, quirky oasis with roots dating back to the Edo period. Originally relocated from Edo Castle to pray for the health of the shogun's children, the shrine now offers blessings for everything from business fortune to romantic match-making. Visitors are guided down a slender corridor by a charming sculpture of a pointing chimpanzee, installed during the 2016 Year of the Monkey by artist Motoka Watanabe. At the end of the path awaits a dazzling series of metallic torii gates and an intimate sanctuary that provides a memorable contrast to the surrounding urban glitz.
