Originally the grand gateway to Anamori Inari Shrine, the Haneda Ōtorii famously withstood postwar demolition when Allied forces expanded the airfield into a military base. After strange accidents and sudden misfortunes repeatedly halted demolition crews, rumors of a curse left the solitary red gate standing on the airport grounds for decades. In 1999, the storied portal was finally relocated to a serene riverside setting near Tenkūbashi Station. Today, it offers aviation enthusiasts and history buffs a striking, photogenic symbol of local resilience against the backdrop of modern Tokyo.
