Originally erected in 1878 as Danjo Bridge, this historic bowstring truss structure was the first iron bridge of its kind in Japan, symbolizing a pivotal era of modernization. Designed after the innovative concepts of American civil engineer Squire Whipple, the bridge survived the devastating 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake before being relocated to Fukagawa in 1929. Today, it spans a leafy pedestrian path where a canal once flowed, just a short walk from Tomioka Hachiman Shrine.
