Tucked away in the quiet Mukojima neighborhood near Sumida Park, Chomeiji Sakuramochi (officially known as Yamamotoya) is the birthplace of Tokyo-style sakuramochi. In 1717, a clever temple custodian began preserving fallen cherry leaves in salt and wrapping them around sweet red-bean-filled crêpes for temple visitors. More than three centuries later, this legendary shop still crafts its delicate, fragrant confections using the same cherished recipe. It offers travelers an authentic, time-honored bite of Edo tradition just a stone's throw from the modern Tokyo Skytree.
