Regarded as the 300-year-old birthplace of Japan's beloved Daruma doll, Shorinzan Darumaji Temple offers a whimsical yet deeply spiritual journey into local folklore. Visitors will encounter striking sights of hundreds of round, bearded dolls stacked across the temple grounds in every hue from classic crimson to radiant gold. You can purchase your own blank-eyed Daruma to make a wish and paint in the first pupil, completing the second only after your dream is fulfilled. The serene complex also features an on-site museum of rare antique dolls and hosts the famous Daruma-Ichi festival each January.
