Sendai Daikannon

Dominating the northern skyline of Sendai, this colossal 100-meter statue of the gem-bearing Nyoirin Kannon is Japan’s tallest statue of a goddess and one of the largest Buddhist figures in the world. Visitors can ride an elevator to the top for sweeping panoramic views across the city, then descend on foot through a spiritual spiraling staircase lined with 108 statues representing human desires and emotions. On the ground floor, an impressive array of 33 different manifestations of Kannon and Chinese astrological figures await your exploration and wishes. It offers an unforgettable fusion of monumental sculpture, serene temple reflection, and grand scenic vistas.
