Shitennoji Temple

Jesse Allhands via Google Maps

Regarded as one of Japan's oldest official temples, Shitennoji was established in 593 by Prince Shotoku to honor the four heavenly kings of Buddhism. Although its structures were rebuilt multiple times throughout history, they have been faithfully reconstructed to reflect their original sixth-century architectural design. Visitors can wander through the peaceful sacred grounds, admire the iconic central pagoda, and immerse themselves in the deep spiritual heritage that helped shape ancient Japan.
