Every year from mid-June through July, the historic Hakone Tozan Railway transforms into a vivid technicolor wonderland celebrated as the Hydrangea Train. As the train climbs through misty mountain passes up to an altitude of 750 meters, passengers are treated to close-up views of tens of thousands of lush blue, pink, and purple blossoms brushing against the tracks. First planted by railway workers in the 1970s, these manicured flowers thrive in the early summer rainy season, creating a magical atmosphere found nowhere else in Japan. It remains one of the most enchanting and iconic seasonal journeys in the country.
