Kiyotsu Gorge Tunnel of Light

Sayumi Nagatsuka via Google Maps

Originally constructed as a safe corridor to view one of Japan's most scenic ravines, this half-mile passage was transformed into the mesmerizing 'Tunnel of Light' installation by MAD Architects for the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial. Visitors wander through atmospheric, color-lit chambers before reaching the breathtaking Panorama Station at the tunnel's terminus. There, polished stainless steel walls and a shallow reflection pool flawlessly frame the dramatic volcanic cliffs and rushing river outside, creating an unforgettable portal between modern design and raw wilderness.
