Mount Wakakusayama

井下原健太 via Google Maps

Mount Wakakusayama is a scenic, grass-carpeted mountain rising roughly 350 meters behind Nara Park, nestled between Todaiji Temple and Kasuga Shrine. Hiking up its smooth slopes rewards travelers with breathtaking, unobstructed vistas stretching across the entirety of the city and its surrounding plains. Open to climbers for most of the year outside of winter, it provides a tranquil escape where visitors can wander among grazing deer along the breezy ridges. It is an especially magical spot in the late afternoon to take in a memorable sunset over historic Nara.
