Standing along the Gojo River just outside Nagoya, Kiyosu Castle served as the strategic launchpad where warlord Oda Nobunaga began his fiery campaign to unify feudal Japan. Although the original 14th-century fortress was dismantled in the early 1600s when the provincial seat moved to Nagoya, a striking reconstruction was erected on the historic grounds in 1989. Inside, visitors can explore exhibits showcasing samurai weaponry, period armor, and the revolutionary military tactics of the Sengoku era. It remains an evocative, less-crowded destination for anyone fascinated by the dramatic warlords of Japanese history.
