Perched high in the mountains of Iwate, this former sulfur mining hub housed over 15,000 residents in state-of-the-art apartment blocks complete with schools, a hospital, and modern amenities. After sulfur mining collapsed and operations ceased in 1969, the entire complex was abandoned to the elements. Today, the skeletal concrete structures rise eerily through dense alpine mist, evoking a silent, post-apocalyptic world frozen in time. It remains a legendary destination for urban explorers, photographers, and lovers of industrial ruins.
