Steeped in ancient folklore, Ogushi Kaizuka Park celebrates the legend of Daidarabotchi, a mythical Japanese giant said to have created the surrounding shell mounds after feasting on shoreline clams. Visitors can climb a hidden staircase inside the towering 50-foot white statue of the giant and take in sweeping park views straight from his outstretched palm. Beyond the quirky legendary titan, the park preserves the Ogushi Midden, an early Jōmon-period site that holds the distinction of being Japan's oldest documented archaeological ruin. Reconstructed pit dwellings from the Jōmon, Yayoi, and Kofun eras complete this unique blend of folklore and ancient history.
