Established in 1841 by feudal lord Tokugawa Nariaki, Kairakuen was uniquely envisioned as a park for the public to enjoy together rather than an exclusive retreat for the ruling elite. Ranked alongside Kenrokuen and Korakuen as one of Japan's three premier landscape gardens, it draws visitors from across the world, especially during the early spring plum blossom season. Beyond its thousands of flowering trees, the spacious grounds offer peaceful walks through towering bamboo groves, historic cedar woods, and scenic vantage points overlooking the surrounding landscape.
