As one of just twelve surviving original castle keeps in Japan, Uwajima Castle offers an authentic glimpse into feudal-era military architecture. Built around the turn of the 17th century and long held by the Date clan, the three-story wooden structure remains remarkably well preserved. Visitors can ascend stone staircases through lush, mossy grounds to tour the historic wooden interior and enjoy sweeping views over the surrounding city and harbor.
