Ukiyoe Small Museum

MakerOne OOOPS via Google Maps

Tucked behind a whimsically honest storefront in Kyoto, the Ukiyoe Small Museum is the personal workshop of master woodblock printmaker Ichimura Mamoru. Visitors fortunate enough to catch the studio open are welcomed into a cozy sanctuary dedicated to the centuries-old tradition of ukiyo-e, a craft practiced by only a few dozen artisans today. Mamoru warmly demonstrates his intricate carving and printing techniques, sharing techniques passed down through generations. A visit offers an exceptionally rare, intimate glimpse into living Japanese art heritage.
