Lining the platforms and pathways of Randen Arashiyama Station, the Kimono Forest features around 600 acrylic-encased poles showcasing exquisite textile patterns. Designed by Yasumichi Morita, each pillar displays authentic Kyo-Yuzen dyed silk produced by the historic Kameda-Tomi textile house, featuring 32 distinct motifs ranging from soaring cranes to floral geometry. While striking by day, the installation becomes truly ethereal after sunset when warm LED lights illuminate the fabric pillars. Open and free to all visitors regardless of train travel, it offers an unforgettable visual gateway to the Arashiyama district.
