Built in 1482 as a refined retirement villa for shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa, Ginkakuji stands as a masterpiece of Higashiyama culture. Though never actually coated in silver like its golden counterpart, the temple charms visitors with its weathered wooden pavilion, meticulously raked sand garden, and lush moss-covered grounds. Winding walking paths lead through peaceful forest groves and offer sweeping viewpoints over the historic complex.
