Built in 1935 through the collaborative efforts of Indian, Turkish, and Tatar merchants, the Kobe Muslim Mosque holds the honor of being Japan's oldest surviving mosque. Designed by Czech architect Jan Josef Švagr, its striking traditional Islamic dome and minarets blend seamlessly into the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the Kitano neighborhood. Remarkably resilient, the structure withstood both the air raids of World War II and the catastrophic 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake. Today, it remains an active place of worship and a profound symbol of Japan's multicultural history.
