Officially named Myoryuji, Ninjadera earned its legendary moniker not from actual shinobi, but from its ingenious labyrinth of defensive trickery and booby traps. Commissioned by the ruling Maeda lords during the Edo Period as a disguised military stronghold, the temple features hidden stairways, trap doors, secret escape routes, and deceptive observation posts concealed within seemingly ordinary temple architecture. Guided tours take visitors through its complex multi-story layout, revealing the brilliant strategic craft woven into every room. It remains one of Kanazawa's most captivating and clever historical wonders.
