Just steps from the lively, sunlit sands of Yuigahama Beach lies a somber reminder of Kamakura's turbulent samurai past. These six stone Jizō (Ksitigarbha) statues, adorned in crimson bibs, were erected to comfort the spirits of medieval criminals executed nearby and to guide souls through the six realms of Buddhist suffering. The surrounding coast witnessed fierce clan battles and served as a mass burial ground where thousands of ancient remains have since been unearthed. Today, this evocative curbside sanctuary still receives quiet prayers and fresh floral offerings from locals honoring the area's shadowy history.
