Conceived by insect-enthusiast anatomist Takeshi Yoro and designed by world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma, Mushizuka is a striking memorial dedicated to departed bugs. Set against a rocky cliff and a medieval burial cave within the Kencho-ji temple complex, the installation features an airy mesh structure reminiscent of insect cages alongside whimsical stag beetle and weevil sculptures that double as benches. It offers a poetic, contemplative space embodying the Buddhist reverence for all sentient creatures. Visitors can enjoy a serene moment under the bamboo while admiring this seamless blend of contemporary design and spiritual tradition.
