Kamakura Museum of History and Culture (Muryōju-in Temple Site)

Once the site of the sprawling 13th-century Muryōju-in Temple and later the private estate of Mitsubishi's founding Iwasaki family, this tranquil hillside venue now houses the Kamakura Museum of History and Culture. Housed in a striking contemporary building designed by architect Norman Foster, the museum showcases fascinating exhibits on the region's storied samurai past. Outside, visitors can explore intriguing rock-cut cliff grottoes and the weathered stone remnants of medieval Zen water basins.
