Founded in 1356, Choanji Temple offers a wonderfully peaceful escape nestled at the base of the Sengokuhara hills. The temple is famous for its collection of stone rakan—disciples of Buddha—each meticulously carved with unique, lifelike expressions hidden among the foliage. A network of quiet trails winds through the wooded grounds and cemetery, creating an atmospheric walk beneath towering trees. It is particularly striking in the autumn, when fiery fall colors frame the timeless stone statues.
