Raizan Sennyoji Daihioin Temple

mami via Google Maps

Tucked into the lush hills of Itoshima, Raizan Sennyoji Daihioin serves as a peaceful haven for ancient Buddhist treasures rescued during the Meiji period. Inside the serene temple halls, visitors can admire an imposing 16-foot-tall wooden statue of Avalokiteśvara and wander through corridors overlooking a tranquil heart-shaped garden pond. Outside, the grounds showcase hillside pathways flanked by 500 uniquely carved stone disciples alongside gentle waterfalls and mountain hiking trails. The temple is especially celebrated in the fall, when its colossal, centuries-old maple tree erupts into a spectacular blaze of vibrant color.
