Tojinbo Cliffs

K H via Google Maps

Stretching for a kilometer along the rugged coastline of Fukui Prefecture, Tojinbo is world-renowned for its rare and striking columnar basalt formations. Towering up to thirty meters above the churning sea, these hexagonal and pentagonal rock pillars have been sculpted over millennia by fierce wind and waves. Visitors can wander along precipitous cliffside trails for sweeping ocean panoramas or take sightseeing boat cruises to view the chiseled stone chasms from below. It is a raw, majestic natural spectacle that offers some of the most unforgettable coastal scenery in Japan.
