Dating back up to 5,000 years to the mid-to-late Jōmon period, the Ubayama Shell Mound is one of Japan's most notable prehistoric archaeological sites. Excavations have unearthed dozens of pit dwellings, vast shell middens, and ancient human remains alongside remnants of fugu bones that sparked famous mysteries. Today, this National Historic Site serves as a peaceful community park where visitors can stroll through deep layers of Neolithic history.
