13 Bridges of the Ebi River

富松利典 via Google Maps

Winding through the heart of Funabashi, the scenic Ebi River is crossed by thirteen distinct bridges, each featuring its own bespoke public art and cultural monument. Walkers along the riverside promenade will encounter mischievous bronze kappa water spirits, literary tributes to author Osamu Dazai, and a collaborative sculpture worked on by classic manga legends including Osamu Tezuka. Other crossings feature fairy tale figures, marching bands, and bronze ship prows celebrating the city's ancient name origins. It makes for a delightfully offbeat, open-air art walk easily accessible just outside central Tokyo.
